Postmenopausal women, sleep and stroke
Postmenopausal women who get less than 6 hours sleep or more than 9 hours a day are more likely to develop ischemic stroke than those who sleep for 7 hours. Women who slept more than 9 hours a day were over 70% more likely, and those who slept less than 6 hours were 14% more likely to develop strokes.
Getting less than 6 hours sleep is actually a bigger problem than it seems because overall, postmenopausal women are more likely to have less sleep and poorer quality of sleep.
This is common because of the hormonal changes that are occurring and associated problems like hot flashes and night sweats etc.
